On the latest episode of The Scope with Dr. K, Dr. Lawrence Kosinski interviews Dr. Mark Jansen, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of Arkansas Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
In his role, Dr. Jansen supervises clinical strategy, population health, enterprise quality and risk management, and strategic data/informatics. He has been active in the application of value-based payment models, including the development of a regional program dedicated to diabetic retinal screening.
The podcast, which airs on HealthcareNOW Radio, features Dr. Jansen’s emphasis on keeping providers in the loop as a crucial aspect of care coordination moving forward.
“The disintermediating of care is even more of a concern when you’re dealing with a complex medical condition. I’m worried about the fragmentation of care, because the more disjointed the approach, the more you’re really going to have trouble offering [patients] that quality experience.”
“At the end of the day, outcomes are the ultimate measure. [You can try to make care] be convenient or cheap, but if you don’t have a good outcome, it’s not going to be good care.”
