Current Open Roles

Location: Fully Remote (East Coast or Midwest preferred)

Job-Type: Full-time

*You must be authorized to work in the US without Visa/Sponsorship*

ABOUT THE COMPANY:

SonarMD aligns incentives around the doctor-patient relationship to reimagine care for complex chronic diseases, starting in gastroenterology. Using AI technology and human support, we predict clinical deterioration in patients and make it easier for patients and specialists to work together to proactively address problems before they become health emergencies. Our approach is proven to keep people healthier and help health plans reduce costs by 15% per member per year. For more information, visit SonarMD.com.

WHY YOU WILL LOVE THIS ROLE:

  • Green field impact: You will architect and build the data platform that powers analytics and every AI/ML insight we deliver. Most of it doesn’t exist yet—you’ll help shape it from the ground up.
  • Startup pace & flexibility: In our small team, “bubblegum and baling wire” prototypes sometimes come first, followed by battle-tested production systems. You’ll thrive in ambiguity and turn chaos into structure.
  • Mission with meaning: The pipelines you create will directly help patients avoid painful flare-ups and hospital visits.

*Attendance at occasional in-person meetups in Chicago/Midwest is required.

WHAT YOU WILL DO (FIRST 12 MONTHS):

  • Design, build, and own automated batch and real-time pipelines that ingest EHR, claims, wearable, and patient-reported data.

  • Stand up and evolve an analytics lake/warehouse on AWS (Glue + RDS), drawing from your experience to choose the right cloud services.

  • Model, tune, and operate our application databases (MongoDB Atlas, PostgreSQL on RDS) to support both transactional and analytical workloads.

  • Expose clean, versioned data sets through REST/GraphQL APIs and internal SDKs for application engineers, ML/AI insights, product features, and analytics teams.

  • Establish Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, AWS CDK, Ansible, etc.) and CI/CD patterns that keep deployments boring and repeatable.

  • Champion data governance, lineage, and HIPAA-grade security.

  • Diagnose performance and cost bottlenecks, iterating quickly to improve.

  • Collaborate daily with Product, Analytics, and Engineering teams—translating fuzzy requirements into pragmatic solutions.

  • Mentor engineers, share learnings, and continuously improve our engineering culture.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 6+ years building data-centric back-end systems, with demonstrated ownership of production pipelines.

  • Strong proficiency in Python (pandas, PySpark, or similar) and solid Node.js / TypeScript experience.

  • Hands-on expertise with at least one major cloud provider, with strong knowledge of AWS services (or corollaries on other platforms)

  • Solid SQL skills, data modeling fundamentals, and experience with both relational (PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) databases

  • Familiarity with CI/CD and a genuine interest in Infrastructure as Code (even if you’re still learning the tooling).

  • Excellent written & verbal communication; comfortable working directly with cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Desire to Help Patients with Chronic Diseases: The candidate should have a genuine interest in our business and understand how their work fits into the broader impact on patient care and healthcare data-driven insights.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Workflow orchestration tools (Airflow, Step Functions, Prefect).
  • Streaming platforms (Kinesis, Kafka, Pub/Sub).
  • MLOps or feature store experience; exposure to AWS Bedrock or other GenAI services.
  • Prior work in healthcare or other regulated domains (HIPAA, SOC 2).

TECH STACK:

  • Languages: Python, TypeScript/Node.js

  • Databases: MongoDB Atlas, PostgreSQL

  • Data Warehouse / Lake: AWS Glue + RDS (exploring Snowflake/Redshift on AWS)

  • Orchestration: Step Functions, Lambda, (experimenting with Airflow)

  • Infrastructure: AWS (EC2, S3, IAM, CloudWatch), Ansible, CDK

  • CI/CD: CircleCI, GitHub Actions

  • Monitoring: CloudWatch, Sentry

ABOUT YOU:

  • You get energy from untangling messy, disparate data and turning it into reliable assets.
  • You are comfortable being the “first responder” in a scrappy environment, iterating toward elegance.
  • You ask great questions, communicate trade-offs plainly, and never hesitate to own outcomes.
  • You see setbacks as learning moments and help others level up alongside you.
  • Above all, you’re driven by building solutions that measurably improve patient lives.

COMPENSATION:

Salary: Negotiable dependent upon experience

Benefits: Competitive benefits package, including health, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) matching, and PTO.
