On the latest episode of The Scope with Dr. K, Dr. Lawrence Kosinski and his guest, Dr. Jim Weber, discuss how Dr. Weber has been able to grow and maintain one of the most successful gastroenterology practices in America.
Although today, Dr. Weber is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the GI Alliance and President/Board Chair of the Digestive Health Physicians Association (DHPA), his beginnings were quite humble.
Starting as a solo physician in Texas, he grew his practice to over 100 physicians, which became Texas Digestive Disease Consultants. He then partnered with Waud Capital to create the GI Alliance, which employs more than 500 physicians in six states.
The podcast, which airs on HealthcareNOW Radio, focuses on Dr. Weber and the GI Alliance’s rise to national prominence, how COVID-19 has affected the practice, and the pros and cons of pursuing private equity.
“Private equity doesn’t help a doctor become a better doctor…private equity helps bring human capital and financial capital to support the business, that can then support the doctors to do what they do best,” Dr. Weber said.
“Stay true to your core – stay true to leaving the physicians in charge of the care.”
