On the latest episode of The Scope with Dr. K, Dr. Lawrence Kosinski interviews Florence Kariuki, RN, Chief Clinical Officer at Health Recovery Solutions (HRS).
Prior to joining HRS, Kariuki was Director, New Models and Episodes of Care at Horizon Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Jersey, where she focused on innovative alternative payment programs, value-based programming, and population health management.
The podcast, which airs on HealthcareNOW Radio, features Kariuki’s expert analysis on the most key components of designing and maintaining a successful value-based care program.
“I would find a problem that the health plan is trying to solve for a significant member volume…a condition for instance, that is dragging costs, and I would build my [VBC] program around that,” said Kariuki.
“I’d put in centralized care coordination, leverage telehealth and remote patient monitoring to help improve patient engagement, engage the physicians – that in itself can be a game-changer for a [VBC] program.”
“I would make sure the [VBC] program measures patient experience, addresses issues that are raised from patient feedback. That way, when I go back to a plan to report, I’m showing impact on quality, their STAR ratings, and patient satisfaction.”
